Rating: * *

New York" is a contemporary story of friendship set against the larger than life backdrop of a city often described as the centre of the world.b The first half of 'New York' is simply amazing and keeps you on the edge, constantly guessing what is going to happen in the very next scene. By the time interval comes, you are looking at a big shocker and eagerly wait for the few minutes of break to be over soon.

Coming down to the second half of the movie, it was a bit disappointing, especially after the big revelation. The pace is quite slow, as compared to the first half, and even some predictability creeps in. Still, it is not without its fair share of engrossing scenes. Especially the torture scenes seem to send a shiver down your spine. The wry humor in the movie is just perfect, neither becoming slapstick, nor getting mislaid. As for the climax, it was not only unpredictable, but a little melodramatic (after all, it is a Bollywood film!). However, it has been executed to perfection.

PAYING GUEST-poor roaring family comedy

Written & directed  by-

Paritosh Painter

Music by-Sajid-Wajid
Producer: Subhash Ghai , Raju Farooqui

Rating: **

Paying Guests' is a poor roaring family comedy presented by Bollywood's showman Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts
Aslam (Shreyas Talpade), Sukhi (Javed Jaffrey), Daljit (Aashish Choudhary) and Karan (Vatsal Sheth) are four buddies who need a roof over their heads. Not any roof but a roof that spreads over all four heads.
Ballu (Johnny Lever) has just the place for them. But like all good things in life this one comes with conditions. He needs couples. Bachelors are a big no-no.
The boys now have their work cut out for them. They need fake wives and in a hurry. In the search for a new accommodation, these crazy friends manage to convince their landlord, a Sindhi landlord played by Asrani, whose first name Kisk is considered funny. Since all these youngsters are bachelors, they don't know how to deal with this new situation. They think over it and settle among themselves to fulfill their landlord's condition. Thus, the new drama triggers a series of confusions that build into the rich complexities of mistaken identities and a climax of comic wizardries!
The star cast is huge and comprises Shreyas Talpade, Aashish Choudhary, Jaaved Jafferi and Vatsal Sheth (Males) and Celina Jaitley, Neha Dhupia, Riya Sen, Sayali Bhagat (Females). Among others are Chunky Pandey, Asrani, Delnaaz Paul and Paintal. The girls don’t have any scope to act as the script is entirely focused on the guys and are merely there for skin show. This again goes to show how male centered most of our movies are. Riya Sen, Celina Jaitly, Sayali Bhagat and Neha Dhupia would have been better off as mannequins than actors in this movie. Riya and Sayali’s dialogue delivery is shoddy and most of the time the girl’s performances are clearly overshadowed by the guys.Aashish and Javeed playing women seem better off than any of the girls.
The other characters in the movie give a decent performance too. Chunky Pandey plays a stuttering goon, Johnny Lever as his sardar brother and Dilnaz as Jhonny's gujarati wife. Dilnaz’s dialogues have been nicely written and superbly delivered
The last scene tries to ape the ‘Mahabaharat’ scene in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, but that kind of genius cannot be repeated, even though this one is fairly funny.
The director Paritosh Painter has tried his best to shoot the movie extensively and has gone out to Bangkok besides shooting in Mumbai. Paritosh Painter has followed in the footsteps of other writers who are foraying into direction. Paritosh has acted / penned / directed a number of comedy plays, besides writing the script of 'Dhamaal'. He has now ventured into film direction too.
Overall, the movie is a flop in all respects.
