Tabu comes back after a long gap. This reason can be enough to watch Toh Baat Pakki. She’s a fine actor who has proved her determination every time. This time, she chooses for a light-hearted comic role in this film .

Rajeshwari [Tabu], married to Vinay [Ayub Khan], dreams of getting her sister Nisha [Yuvika Choudry] married to the most suitable boy within their Saxena community. Also, Rajeshwari is against the dowry system. Rajeshwari finds a good Saxena boy studying engineering and has prospects of a promising future. Rahul [Sharman Joshi] is a good proposition for her sister and she even gets him to move into her house as a paying guest.

However, when Rajeshwari learns that Rahul is not interested in marriage, she smartly devices a plan to bring her sister and make them get to know each other. She's confident that once he meets Nisha, there is no turning away. They fall in love. Rajeshwari is happy. Marriage is fixed.." TOH BAAT PAKKI".

The story takes twists and turns where Rajeshwari tries to set up Nisha with Yuvraaj. Yuvraaj is also a Saxena. He has a good job and is waiting to move into his house. Rajeshwari can't believe her luck. This is a better prospect.

For instance, the portions depicting Sharman helping Tabu during the marriage celebrations are far from convincing. In fact, the screenplay starts losing its grip from hereon. Even Sharman's attempts to poison Himani Shivpuri and Vatsal Sheth's mind appears childish. Ditto for the abduction drama towards the end. The Sharat Saxena track also looks forced.

Kedarh Shinde's direction holds your attention at a few places only. A lot of present-day directors seem inspired by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee's movies. Tabu is a pleasure to watch. She's natural and it must be said that it gets difficult to move your eyes when she's on screen. Sharman, again, is likable and gets it right. Vatsal does fairly well. Yuvika doesn't get much scope. Ayub Khan is passable. Himani Shivpuri and Suhasini Mulay are as usual. Upasna Singh is loud.

On the whole, Toh Baat Pakki has a few interesting moments, but not enough to keep you hooked. It will have to rely on a strong word of mouth, especially from family audiences, to stay afloat.

3 idiots is the most remarkable film of 2009, which touches the right chord in people's heart with its witty story telling, marvelous acting and the incisive look which the film takes at the education system in India.

Inspired by Chetan Bhagat's novel, ‘Five Point Someone’ chronicles the tale of three friends who are room mates in an engineering college.

Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Rancho or Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan) are three engineering students who share the same room in a hostel in one of the best engineering colleges in India.

Farhan and Raju are average students from modest backgrounds; Rancho is a wealthy genius who studies for the sheer joy of it. He has a passion for knowledge and his gift for creating machines that incurs the wrath of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe (ViruS) played brilliantly by Boman Irani.
It's a story of their hostel days that swings between Rancho's romance with the spirited Pia, and his clash with an oppressive mentor, Viru Sahastrabudhhe.

Finally, in misty mountains of unparalleled beauty, the friends find the key to the secret.

The story of these 3 friends is framed as a flashback from the present day, ten years after graduation. Immediately after the convocation, Raju and Farhan have lost contact with Rancho who disappeared during the graduation party, so they begin a journey to find him.

Chatur, who is now a wealthy and successful businessman, joins them in the search for Rancho, as he has a desire to settle a bet with Rancho, Raju and Farhan also find Pia and take her along with them to meet Rancho.

Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi come up with a commendable performance. Kareena Kapoor is there for a short role, and she is just marvelous.
The principal Virus (as called by the boys) is threatened by Rancho's talent, so he just labels him an "idiot" and even attempts to destroy his friendship with Farhan and Raju. Virus’ model student is Chatur Ramalingam (Omi Vaidya), a geek who lives by conforming to the expectations of the system, mindless cramming, and unethical means of destroying his competition. Meanwhile, Rancho also falls in love with Pia (Kareena Kapoor) who is a pre-med student and the principal’s daughter.

And then one day, suddenly, Rancho vanished...

The friend who influenced and inspired them to think creatively and independently, even as the conformist world called them three idiots. Where is the original idiot now?

Farhan and Raju embark on a quest for a lost buddy. On this journey, they encounter a long forgotten bet, a wedding they must crash, and a funeral that goes impossible out of control. As they make their way through the perilous landscape, another journey begins: their inner journey through memory lane and the story of their friend - the irrepressible free-thinker Rancho, who in his unique way touched and changed their lives.
Chatur Ramalingam played by Omi Vaidya is excellent and creates an impression with his acidic tongue and gestures in the movie. Mona Singh doesn't get much scope. Jaaved Jaffery is competent. Pareekshit Sahani is decent.

On the downside, some unbelievable filmy situations which can be excused as writer's liberty like the episode of Mona's delivery was a bit far stretched, and the conformist would disapprove scenes of the boys dropping off their trousers in the ragging scene and in subsequent scenes.

This film has tremendous youth appeal and feel-good factor and makes you laugh and in the process you learn the golden rules which it preaches is - Life is not about getting marks, grades but chasing your dreams.

3 Idiots isn't an ordinary film. It's a life-changing experience, and an insightful laugh - riot that talks about the most important of human pursuits: self-actualization.

A classic, brilliant and a highly entertaining film. What an awesome film to end the year 2009.

HELLO- An Entertainer Film

The movie story:-

One Night @ Call Centre by Chetan Bhagat is an interesting read with every character well defined by the author. It begins with the author meeting a co-passenger in his train compartment, builds up with the six main characters in the call centre and dwells well on Bakshi, the man in charge of Connexions, the Call Centre the six are working in. It then moves on to the all-important call from God and His conversation with them especially regarding Bakshi, which makes them sit up and take notice and turn things around in their favour. It's extremely difficult for someone who has read a book and then to see a movie made on it to relate to it. Every time, as a viewer, you will be trying to picture in your mind's eye what you interpreted of the novel. In that respect, it's not always going to be 'up there'. However, where justice can be made, it has to. Like for instance, the character of Bakshi is half baked. This when you have a tight script in your hand is not acceptable. I mean, when you read the novel you want to wring Bakshi's neck with your bare hands. That's the same feeling that goes through Shyam and Vroom's mind in the book. But Bakshi's shortcoming, coupled with his 'diplomatic' bullying tactics, especially towards Shyam, who is never able to say no, is missing. The whole concept of showing Shyam as a 'soft man' never able to stand up to his bad boss is lost. Also, the way they are all placed at the Call Centre with their desks is debatable. And there are many instances when the scene just takes off. Like when Radhika says she misses her husband, Vroom dials her husband's mobile number. Wherein, in the book, it's brilliantly built up where Vroom asks Radhika if she wants to play "Radio Jockey". In the book, Vroom explains what he means: "I call Anuj and pretend I am calling from a radio show. Then I tell him he has won a prize, a large bouquet of roses and a box of Swiss chocolates that he can send to anyone he loves, anywhere in India, with a loving message. So then, we all get to hear what romantic lines he says to you." A chance of a good scene is washed out here. As a reader, you are kicked in the gut when Anuj says he wants to send the flowers to his girlfriend Payal! Also, there could have been some more fire in the lovemaking scene between Priyanka and Shyam. It comes off rather tame. The passion is missing. Then there is this scene when their car is hanging precariously on rods at a construction site and the call from God comes. There is this whole conversation that dwells on Bakshi, which explains their actions when they come back. But not in the movie. A viewer who has not read the book will wonder why they are getting even with Bakshi. Finally, there is this trick in MS Word with which they spread panic among the Americans to increase their call volumes. They tell the Americans that there is a virus in the computer and they need to spread the word around and keep calling at the Call Centre. According to Vroom (in the book) all you have to do is open a word file and type =rand (200,99) and press enter. As soon as that is done, you have hundred pages of text, which reads like this... The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog... Director Atul Agnihotri has taken a few cinematic liberties, which is acceptable, but overall he falls short of rekindling the same sort of emotion that one goes through while reading the book. To come back to the story, it's about one night in a Call Centre and what happens to the six friends who work there. There's Shyam (Sharman Joshi), Priyanka (Gul Panag), Vroom (Sohail Khan), Esha (Isha Koppikar), Radhika (Amrita Arora) and Milatary Uncle (Sharat Saxena). Then there's the big bad boss Bakshi (Dalip Tahil). There's also Salman Khan to whom the story is being told to by Katrina Kaif. All six actors do justice to their characters but it is only Gul who actually speaks in an Americanised accent that a Call Centre employee is supposed to speak in. Katrina Kaif looks tired, sleepy and bored. Salman in the first part looks every bit the rock star he is portrayed. I would say a decent attempt but could have been better considering the director had at his disposal a very good story and the services of the author himself.
